If you text us, we will contact you back.

It may be a phone call or a text back. If you didn't mention whatever is going on, that will be the first thing we ask. Just be honest and let it rip.

We have teens and adults who are trained to help you out. That may mean just listening. It may mean connecting you with someone or some organization who can help with your specific issue.

And it could mean we need to make an emergency call on your behalf.

No matter what, we'll tell you what the next steps will be as far as we can tell.

If you are calling about another person you are worried about, we will want to talk to them or, if an emergency, may need to make an emergency call.

Who will I be talking to?

Volunteers are youth or adults who have been trained in crisis intervention.

They are good listeners who have chosen to make themselves available to be with young people who are having difficulties.

Most of the volunteers have been through some terrible moments in life. Those may not be exactly like yours.

Their first goal is always to hear your story. They may ask questions to get the whole picture.

Hopefully from their training and the resources we have given them, they can get you help.

Will you call my parents?

Our responsibility is your safety first and foremost. If there are any legal requirements to contact your parents, we will tell you first.

For instance, if you are a girl and worried about pregnancy for any reason, you can get contraceptives in Oregon without your parents permission or knowledge.

In an abortion, though, if you are under 16 you must have parental permission.

Those are just some examples.

First, thank you for taking this step to help a friend. It takes a lot of courage.

We might help by coaching you through some skills to help him or her. That's if their safety is not at risk.

If there is a safety issue, like you're worried about suicide or abuse, someone is probably going to have to make an emergency call.

We will help you get through that. Trust your instincts.
